I'm Here - A Love Story In An Absolut World

Spike Jonze directed a short film called I'm Here. It's a love story about robots. The movie opens up in Eagle Rock, California on a bus where you are introduced to Sheldon. He is polite beyond belief. Waiting for the bus home, he sees Francesca. She is a really cool. They fall in love. She takes Sheldon to a show, and her arm tares off. Sheldon gives her his arm. Then his leg. Then his life. With a good soundtrack the movie captures a strange but beautiful world where humans and robots co-exist. In only thirty minutes, Spike Jonze creates characters more memorable than most movies spanning two hours. It's really enjoyable. You can watch the whole movie here.

if it ain't cheap, it ain't punk

microcosm publishing and plan-it-x records made a documentary: if it ain't cheap, it ain't punk directed by joe biel. it starts out with the history of the politically conscious basement punk scene and leads into the history of plan-it-x focusing on operation: cliff clavin. after discussing the history of the label, the documentary sways into the first plan-it-x fest and shows how that led to the first tour-fest. the documentary ends with the plan-it-x fest 2006 in bloomington, indiana. it talks about the labels gain in popularity with bands like against me! and kimya dawson gaining mainstream success. the film offers live clips of defiance, ohio, this bike is a pipe bomb, one reason among other bands, making the documentary pretty awesome for fans of any of those bands. bonus features include extended interviews, my favorite of which focused on the history of abe froman. this is a pretty awesome film that is definitely worth watching.

beautiful losers::film review

never has a film left me feelings so inspired. a documentary on d.i.y. art directed by aaron rose and and joshua leonard in 2007, the film focuses on a collective of artists including shepard fairey, ed templeton, harmony korine, and margaret kilgallen among others. based around the outcast subcultures of graffiti and skateboarding, the film dives into the minds of artists that sparked an underground movement. through eighty-nine minutes of interviews, the film captures what it is about street art that has left a profound impact in the minds of kids. with that impact, the film shows how these forms of art have transcended into the mainstream creating a medium for losers and junkies alike. one of the best documentaries made in years. be sure to catch this inspirational film.
